Why Testosterone for Women?

Low-dose testosterone therapy is well-supported for hypoactive sexual desire and midlife energy in women — a category most competitors skip because it requires lab monitoring. Applied daily and dosed to the female physiologic range.

What to expect

What to expect

  • Bloodwork first — Baseline labs establish your starting point and guide the dose.
  • A very small dose — Roughly a tenth of typical male dosing, prepared specifically for this range.
  • Applied daily — To rotating sites, allowed to dry, hands washed afterwards.
  • Report changes early — Acne or unwanted hair growth usually means the dose needs lowering.

Dosing, safety & what's inside

How to dose

Apply 0.2-0.4 mL (1-2 mg) to inner thigh or lower abdomen once daily; titrate per symptoms and 8-12 week labs (total testosterone, SHBG)

Risks & side effects

Controlled substance, DEA Schedule III. Baseline labs are required before your first prescription, with follow-up labs at 6 to 12 weeks to guide dosing. Benefits: Evidence-supported therapy for low sexual desire, and for energy and mood support in midlife. Dosing is titrated against your labs to stay within the female physiologic range. Risks: Acne and hair growth at the application site. With too high a dose, changes to voice and body hair. Transference precautions apply.

Common questions

Why would a woman take testosterone?

Women produce testosterone too, and levels decline with age. Low-dose therapy is most commonly used for persistent low sexual desire after other causes have been addressed. Some people also report changes in energy and mood.

How low is low-dose?

Roughly a tenth of a typical male dose. The formulation here is specifically prepared for that range — male-strength products are not appropriate.

What side effects should I watch for?

Signs of too much: acne, unwanted hair growth at the application site or on the face, and voice changes. Voice changes may not fully reverse, so report them promptly.

Is this FDA-approved for women?

There is no FDA-approved testosterone product for women in the US, so this is prescribed off-label using a compounded preparation. Your clinician will explain what that means before you start.
