How does Arousal Cream work?

Sildenafil relaxes blood vessels and increases local blood flow. Applied as a cream rather than swallowed, the effect concentrates where it is needed and systemic exposure stays low. It is used on demand, shortly before activity, rather than daily.

What to expect

What to expect

  • Applied before activity — Around 15 to 30 minutes ahead, not daily.
  • Warmth is expected — Local warmth or tingling is the normal response.
  • Low systemic exposure — The main advantage over an oral tablet.
  • Nitrates rule it out — This applies to sildenafil in every form.

Risks & side effects

Sildenafil is FDA approved as an oral tablet for erectile dysfunction in men. There is no FDA approved topical sildenafil cream. That means no FDA reviewed safety label exists for this preparation, and no side effect rate has been established for applying it to the skin.

Tell your care team straight away if you get chest pain, dizziness or fainting, a severe headache that will not settle, or swelling or a rash where you applied it.

Do not take this if you or your partner take nitrates in any form, or you have reacted badly to sildenafil before.

This is not a complete list of side effects. Message your care team about any symptom that worries you. What we dispense is a compounded preparation made by a licensed US pharmacy. Compounded medications are not approved by the FDA for safety, efficacy or quality.

Common questions

How is this different from taking a tablet?

The cream acts locally where it is applied, so systemic exposure is much lower. That means fewer of the whole-body effects associated with oral tablets, but also a more localised result.

How long before it works?

Most people apply it 15 to 30 minutes beforehand. Warmth or tingling at the site is expected and usually means it is working.

Can my partner be affected?

Transfer is possible. Allow it to absorb fully before contact, and discuss this with your clinician if it is a concern.

Is it safe with other medications?

Nitrates are a hard contraindication with sildenafil in any form. Tell your clinician about everything you take, including anything for chest pain or blood pressure.
