Why Estriol for skin?

Skin loses collagen quickly in the years around menopause, which is why texture and hydration change so noticeably then. Estriol is a weak oestrogen applied topically to support the skin locally. Absorption into the bloodstream is low, but it remains a hormone, so your history is reviewed before prescribing.

What to expect

What to expect

  • Nightly application — To clean, dry skin as part of an evening routine.
  • Addresses a specific cause — The collagen loss that follows falling oestrogen.
  • Weeks for hydration — Firmness and texture take several months.
  • It is still a hormone — Your history is reviewed before prescribing.

Risks & side effects

There is no FDA approved estriol product in the United States, so there is no FDA reviewed safety label for this cream and no established side effect rate. Estriol is an estrogen. Estrogen products carry serious warnings when taken systemically, and how much of a topical facial cream reaches the bloodstream has not been established.

Tell your care team straight away if you get unusual vaginal bleeding, breast tenderness or a new lump, or swelling or a rash where you applied it.

This is not a complete list of side effects. Message your care team about any symptom that worries you. What we dispense is a compounded preparation made by a licensed US pharmacy. Compounded medications are not approved by the FDA for safety, efficacy or quality.

Common questions

How is this different from a retinoid?

A retinoid works on cell turnover. Estriol addresses the specific loss of collagen and hydration that follows falling oestrogen. They target different causes and are sometimes used together.

Is it absorbed into my body?

Absorption is low at the concentrations used, but not zero. That is why your history is reviewed first.

How long before I see a change?

Hydration often improves within weeks. Firmness and texture take several months of consistent use.

Who should not use it?

It is not for use in pregnancy, and anyone with a history of hormone-sensitive cancer should discuss it with their clinician before starting.
