What is PT-141 Nasal Spray?

Bremelanotide acts on melanocortin receptors in the brain, supporting desire rather than blood flow. The nasal spray delivers the same mechanism without an injection. It is taken on demand, ahead of activity, and the frequency is capped rather than daily.

What to expect

What to expect

  • Plan ahead — Taken around 45 minutes before, not immediately prior.
  • Desire, not blood flow — A different pathway to the familiar oral tablets.
  • Nausea is common — The most frequently reported effect, and it varies a lot between people.
  • Capped frequency — On-demand use with a limit, not a daily medication.

How to dose

Risks & side effects

Bremelanotide is FDA approved only for low sexual desire in premenopausal women. The label states it is not indicated in postmenopausal women, not in men, and not to enhance sexual performance.

Tell your care team straight away if your blood pressure climbs or you get a severe headache after a dose, you cannot stop vomiting, you notice new dark patches on your face, gums or breasts, you get chest pain, or your heartbeat becomes very slow.

Common side effects

  • nausea
  • flushing
  • a reaction where the injection was given
  • headache
  • vomiting

Rare but serious

  • a temporary rise in blood pressure
  • a slower heart rate
  • darkening of the skin that may not fade
  • nausea severe enough to stop treatment

Do not take this if you have high blood pressure that is not controlled, or you have known heart disease.

This is not a complete list of side effects. Message your care team about any symptom that worries you. What we dispense is a compounded preparation made by a licensed US pharmacy. Compounded medications are not approved by the FDA for safety, efficacy or quality.

Common questions

How does this compare to the injection?

Same mechanism, different route. The spray avoids a needle; absorption can be a little more variable, and nasal irritation is an added possibility.

When do I take it?

At least 45 minutes before activity. It is used on demand, not daily, and there is a cap on how often.

What are the common side effects?

Nausea is the most frequently reported and can be significant for some people, along with flushing, headache and irritation in the nose.

Who should avoid it?

Anyone with uncontrolled high blood pressure or established cardiovascular disease. Screening for this is part of your intake.
